• “Fantastic overnight stay as we hiked the Dales Way, 2 (very) weary walkers couldn’t have dreamed of hosts more generous & obliging than Liz & Steve. Pool House had everything we needed to rest up and we felt so welcome we could barely leave. Definitely will be staying again for trips to the Lakes & Dales or as a stop on the way to Scotland. Highly recommend.

  • Liz and Steve provide a warm, homely welcome with delicious food and incredible hospitality. The location is in a stunning valley of endlessly changing views. You can walk in a variety of directions from the front door and we enjoyed a bracing dip in the river Lune after our circular walk. The double room was spotless, and it was incredible to wake up to the view of the sheep and hills from my window. I would 100% recommend a stay here to rest and recharge your batteries. It is a very peaceful location yet very close to the M6 and amenities of Kendal.

  • Liz and Steve are great, friendly hosts and our overnight stay was exceptionally enjoyable. We arrived as travel weary cyclists and left the next morning fully refreshed. We ate with the family in the evening, literally a God-send, and also enjoyed a hearty breakfast with our hosts. We would like to return but next time perhaps not by bike!

  • We stayed at Liz and Steve's while walking the Dalesway as it is on the route itself, we broke our journey here after walking from Dent, before moving onto Burneside the following day. We spent a lovely meal and evening with Liz and Steve, we were made to feel extremely welcome and were fed beautiful homemade food. The house was warm, the shower was great and the bed was extremely comfortable - all things that were needed after a long wet day walking. We would definitely recommend breaking your journey here.

  • This B&B is beautiful, both internally and externally. Liz and Steve have gone to great lengths to provide the most relaxing and comfortable environment possible. The rooms are ensuite, with extremely comfortable double/king size beds. The family lounge is cosy and comfortable. As walkers we booked evening meals with our hosts for our two nights stay, along with cooked breakfasts and packed lunches. The home cooked food was excellent with portion sizes to satisfy the hungriest of walkers. Pricing is reasonable and extremely good value.  I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Pool House to anyone requiring accommodation in this area. Liz and Steve have created an absolute gem.

  • I stayed with Liz and Steve while walking the Dales Way as it's bang on route, and is a perfect location to stop after a morning seeing the sights and bookshops of Sedbergh followed by a gentle afternoon's walking. I was greeted with home made cake, and the two course evening meal was equally delicious and homemade and catered to my idiosyncratic dietary requirements. Liz and Steve are lovely - they made me feel really welcome. The accommodation was all good things - clean, comfortable, chocolate in the bedroom, and a view of the Howgills from my bedroom window.

  • A great find and on The Dales Way path (no detour) at the end of a long day. My first home stay and both Steve and Lizzie were very welcoming, easy to chat to and made me feel comfortable in their lovely home. Thank you!

  • "We stayed with Liz and Steve in March 2025, whilst doing the Dales Way which passes their front door. We were given a lovely welcome with tea and cake and our room was beautifully clean and comfortable. After a welcome shower we enjoyed a delicious evening meal with Liz; she clearly enjoys cooking. Breakfast too was excellent. Pool House is in a quiet spot right beside a narrow bridge over the river Lune and a small group of ex-mill buildings. Our stay felt like we were visiting friends and we hope to return for a few days to show our granddaughters this beautiful area. Thanks to Liz and Steve for their wonderful hospitality,”
